As a new patient, our medical assistants will perform an ANS (autonomic nervous system) test on you. This test is painless and is used to detect nerve damage due to various medical conditions that Dr. Odell can review with you.
As part of your peripheral nervous system, the autonomic nervous system (ANS) influences the function of your internal organs and controls and regulates body functions such as your heart rate, digestion, breathing rate, lung response, etc.
This is really two systems that work together in balance: 1.) sympathetic nervous system and 2.) parasympathetic nervous system.
Many of you have experienced the sympathetic nervous system because it is often referred to as the “fight or flight” system whereas the parasympathetic system is often considered the “rest and digest” system that calms the nerves and enhances digestion.
Think of the sympathetic system like putting your foot on your car’s gas pedal to make it go faster and the parasympathetic is like putting your foot on the brake to slow down.
Both systems play an important part of your bodily function, health and well-being.
Dr. Odell will review your ANS and Neural Scan tests and discuss the course of treatment he recommends.
